Houses to be built at disused Chewits factory

Sefton planning committee has approved plans to build 168 homes on the site of Southport’s disused Chewits factory.

The proposals include 106 apartments and 62 new family homes and will include a new public green space with a children’s play area.

There will also be a small amount of commercial office space to help balance the loss of former employment land, and money will also be set aside to improve the footbridge across the railway to Central 12.

Developer Bellway Homes has started demolition and construction is due to begin in early summer. No completion date has been set.
