HS2 appoints Arup/URS to steer on environmental issues

Arup has been appointed by HS2 to provide environmental overview services for the £17bn connection between London and the West Midlands.

It will be supported in the £7m contract by URS in the first deal to be awarded under Lot 3 Environmental Services of HS2 Ltd’s professional services framework.

Arup will provide technical leadership and oversight in the preparation of the Environmental Impact Assessments on issues including natural environment; historic environment; built environment and community.

Lot 3 is made up of a total of five packages - the remaining packages to be awarded are for the Environmental Impact Assessments. Arup will coordinate the work of the environmental companies appointed to these contracts.

Reporting to HS2 Ltd, Arup will produce the Environmental Statement, which will form part of the hybrid bill documentation for the Parliamentary process.

The contract, worth £7m, began this week and will continue up to the deposit of the hybrid bill by the end of 2013.
