HSE set to hit target

THE HEALTH and Safety Executive (HSE) is on target to win more than 400 convictions against construction firms this year.

Provisional figures just released show the HSE has successfully prosecuted 376 firms for un-

safe and dangerous working practices in the 10 months to October 31.

The figures put inspectors on target to break the 400 barrier for the year.

And in the 12 months to April 1997 the average penalty for contractors found guilty of offen-ces is set to more than double to £5,354, compared to £2,232 in the 1995/1996 year.
