HSE to find new construction chief

The Health and Safety Executive’s chief construction inspector has been moved to a newly-created role overseeing its London, and more specifically Olympics, operations.

Stephen Williams, who has been chief inspector for the industry since 2005 and worked with the HSE since 1977, will now take up the new post of Director of Field Operations (London) and the Olympics.

The HSE said Mr Williams would lead the health and safety regulation of the 2012 Olympics, which includes the construction phase, while heading up HSE London Field Operations Division.

He will continue in his current role until the post is filled.
