IMAGES: Balfour Beatty lifts bridge beams with UK’s largest mobile crane

The site team used a 1,200 tonne Gottwalk AK680 crane, the biggest in the UK, to lift the 121 tonne south beam-set out to a radium of 80m.

It also used a 600 tonne Demag TC2800 crane, lifting a 140 tonne north beam-set into place on the North Pilfrey Bridge project.

Balfour Beatty Regional Civil Engineering is conducting the construction for Scottish and Southern Energy.

The three-span composite bridge, crossing the Stainforth and Keadby Canal in Doncaster, will be 100m long when completed.
