Improved logistics promise £6bn savings

THE CONSTRUCTION industry could save £6 billion a year through better logistics, according to a new study.

Construction Products Association chief executive Michael Ankers, who has prepared the 10-page report for the Strategic Forum, said: 'The savings to be made through better-organised projects, more efficient use of labour on site and having the right equipment on site are enormous.

'Excluding things like small domestic work, we've looked at sectors including industrial, commercial and major housing worth around £60 billion and there is scope for savings of around 10 per cent.'

The report will be published after the Forum's final comments. Its recommendations will be followed up by Constructing Excellence.
