Gully redesign

Wavin Plastics has redesigned its OsmaDrain Bottle Gully to make installation and maintenance easier. The new version can rotate by means of a push-fit joint located between the gully's body and its cover and frame. Wavin says this reduces the need for additional bends and makes it easier to align the gully with connecting pipework or paving slabs.

Tie security

Smith Francis Tools has developed a ladder tie which is designed toreduce the risk both of theft and of accidents. The new tie attaches any wooden, aluminium or steel ladder to an adjacent horizontal scaffold pole, preventing slippage and guarding against unauthorised removal. The device comprises a single-piece, drop-forged clamp body which is easily attached with a standard 7/16 in Whitworth scaffold spanner.

Door closer style

The latest door closers from Geze are the TS 5000 and T 3000, both of which feature easy operation and an attractive appearance, according to the manufacturer. The devices are both guide rail door closers, developed in response to the demand for more attractive door hardware. They have a single arm fitted in parallel to the closer body and feature an eccentric rack and pinion mechanism which ensures powerful closing force butallows easy opening.

Sokkia has introduced a new range of total stations for the construction market. The SET500/600 series combines the latest electronic technology and software enhancements in a rugged, lightweight design, says Sokkia. The new instruments are more efficient than their predecessors, have a morevisible display and feature on-board software capable of 3D setting out, resection, area calculation and offset.

X-ray analysis

Farnborough based YSI says its X-Met 970 uses X-ray fluorescence to analyse accurately the thickness of many different types of coatings used on almost any material. The device is a non-contact analyser which measures thin and ultra-thin coatings directly from the surface. The manufacturer says it is suitable for use both on-line and in the laboratory.

Subsurface radar

Vermeer has launched Terravision, a high-resolution ground penetrating radar (GPR) system developed especially for underground utility installation work. Using the latest in GPR and 3-D imaging, the Terravision translates GPR signals into 3-D images to help contractors locate and identify subsurface obstacles. The Terravision is available in the UK from Vermeer dealer B-Trac Equipment.

The Draught Proofing Advisory Association has published a new Register of Approved Products which, it says, gives specifiers a simple reference to properties,applications and standards of individual draught-proofing products. Heavy duty steel

Wessex has launched a new steel garage door which, it says, is ideal for use by local authorities and housing associations. Best known for its PVC-u doors, Wessex has developed the white powder-coated steel models especially for the public sector market. The new doors are of heavier gauge steel than most commercial garage doors and feature multi-point locking for extra security.

Timber look

NovEra has produced a side-hinged version of its vacuum-formed ABS/ASA plastic garage door. The new model is called the Prestige Berkeley and is designed to look like a pair of white-painted timber doors, complete with stiles and rails. The new door has multi-point locking as standard and, like the existing NovEra doors, has high impact resistance.
