Translucent sheet

New from Corofill Woodall is a glass-reinforced translucent plastic cladding sheet designed for use on both roofs and walls. Corolyte sheets use thermosetting UV-stabilised unsaturated polyester resin and glass fibre and are made in two fire-retardant grades to meet British Standards. The sheets are coated with daylight diffusing additives to increase durability and eliminate fibre breakout.

Site protection

Montercrest Security has developed a digital surveillance system that it says will protect any building site. Colour cameras and external passive infrared movement detectors are linked via standard telephone lines to the Montercrest monitoring station. Voice communication to the site can also be incorporated in the package, says the company.

Howarth Windows and Doors has updated its Hi Spec door and entrance frames. The introduction of 18 mm rebate upstands improves door security and enhances glazing performance and durability. The glazing platform has also been expanded to accommodate 22 mm drained and vented sealed units. A Mobility Option is now available on Howarth standard door frames to meet new Building Regulations regarding disabled access.

Invisible seal

Permacell Finesse has launched Legend 70, a range of PVC window frames that are co-extruded with a weatherproof gasket attached. Permacell says the co-extrusion method means that the weatherseal is not visible, and that the method reduces fabrication costs. The frames are available in gloss white and a choice of colour combinations incorporating different shades of brown on a woodgrain-effect.

W S Atkins has signed a three-year deal to market Hydra, a programme management software developed by Hydra Development Corporation. The software has been specifically designed to manage portfolios of projects and programmes, allowing managers to keep track of their projects wherever they are. Steel protection

International Protective Coatings, a division of Akzo Nobel, has launched a range of water-based epoxy coatings to protect steel from corrosion. They include a zinc phosphate epoxy primer called Intergard 270, a zinc-rich epoxy primer (Interzinc 280) and a high-build epoxy intermediate (Intergard 401). The manufacturer says the new products have the same long-term performance as solvent-based epoxies but are less harmful to users and the environment.

Water-based gloss

Dulux Trade claims its new Aquatech gloss and undercoat are the first water-based, low-odour paints to offer a high-gloss finish and quick drying time. The Aquatech range is intended for interior use has good flow and levelling characteristics, is touch-dry in two hours and recoatable in six hours, with low odour, says the manufacturer. The new paint comes in the full Dulux colour and BS colour ranges and can also be applied to heated surfaces such as radiators.

Focal Signs has produced a new statutory Health and Safety Law poster, reflecting the changes in legislation over the past 10 years. The new poster focuses on the modern framework of general duties, supplemented by the basics of health and safety management. All workplaces that display old posters are required by law to replace them with the new edition by June 30, 2000, explains Focal Signs.

Duckbill anchor

The SR1 Stingray is a new duckbill ground anchor from WT Anchor Systems. The SR1 is capable of accepting immediate proof loads up to 300 kN, making it ideal for a variety of ground and structural stabilisation applications - sheet piling, for example. WT Anchor Systems says the new anchor is suitable for use in virtually all displaceable ground conditions.

London yellow

Ibstock has unveiled two new additions to the products made at its Funton factory. The new bricks, called Old Chelsea Yellow and Old Chelsea Dark, are designed especially for commercial and domestic refurbishment in London and the South-East. Ibstock says the new bricks are excellent matches for traditional materials but have better durability and consistency than most reclaimed bricks.

Industrial cleaner

Dustcontrol has introduced two industrial vacuum cleaners to its range. The Wet Vac DC2700w is a large capacity trolley-mounted unit which will remove wet waste, such as concrete, stone and masonry slurry. It separates the solids from the water so the two can be disposed of separately. The model DC2700iw can tackle the same work as its wet stablemate, but will also handle dry material.

Corrosion report

Flex-Seal Couplings has produced a report summarising the main findings of several research projects examining the problem of corrosion in buried stainless steel products. The company, which makes flexible pipe joints from rubber and stainless steel, says the report will be of interest to all engineers and contractors who specify construction products that incorporate stainless steel parts. Structural method

Draught proofing

The Draught Proofing Advisory Association has published a new Register of Approved Products which, it says, gives specifiers a simple reference to properties, applications and standards of individual draught-proofing products. The Register pinpoints the products by brand and description that comply with BS7386. It also identifies their suitability for use with windows and doors.

Underground use

Naylor Lintels has developed a new range of lintels for use underground. The Hi-Spec pre-stressed concrete lintels are designed mainly to be used for bridging drains, but they can also be used as ground beams. The standard sections can be built directly off pad foundations, regardless of ground conditions, says Naylor.
