Quiet in operation

Grundfos Pumps has launched a new hot water circulation pump called the Grundfos Comfort. The Comfort pump is designed to consume low amounts of energy and to be quiet in operation. It has a spherical motor with no rotating bearing shaft; the rotor is gimbal-mounted to give a play- free bear-ing, says Grundfos.

Croydon-based Sashpro offers a full reconditioning service for traditional timber box sash windows. The service includes full weather-proofing and insulation installation, joint refixing and wood restoration, counterweight balancing and replacement of components including sills and sashes. Window detail

Wessex Doors now makes more than 20 models in its range of glass reinforced plastic garage doors with mock window detail. The company says that one- third of its garage doors now have window sections and around one in seven have real windows in them. These windows are made of clear or translucent plastic and can be supplied in a variety of styles.

Fibreglass range

PC Henderson has launched a range of fibreglass residentialentrance doors with the claim that they have better security, thermal, acoustic and maintenance features than timber doors. The Henderson doors are made of two fibreglass skins injected with a high-density polyurethane foam core. The doors are supplied pre-hung to a frame if required.

Rollalong says that its new Lodja two-person sleeping unit is an 'affordable unit with inherent build quality, offering comfortable,accommodation'. Handles with care

The new Verona series of door handles from Hoppe come in stainless steel, brass or aluminium. They also feature a matching rose, rectangular or radius backplate to accept Euro or Oval cylinders. The range is supplied with the Hoppe patented profile spindle, which features the firm's own method of fitting and securing the handle to the door.

Ground anchors

Stainless UK has introduced Mini Grip-Bar and Hollow Grip- Bar, two products designed for specialised groundwork applications. The Mini Grip-Bar is an alternativeto stranded wire for ground anchoring applications, for example as a single-point fixing for wire netting. The Hollow Grip-Bar is a self-drilling anchor through which resin grouts can be injected in, for example, bridge repair work.

Paver re-launch

Baggeridge has re-launched the range of high-quality stock pavers made by its newly-acquired business, Rudgwick Brickworks. The pavers are suited to new build and refurbishment projects and are made by the traditional method of clamp firing. TRADA Technology has published a guidance leaflet on the construction of timber suspended ground floors to meet the requirements of the new Part M of the Building Regulations. Part M covers access and facilities for disabled people and was last year extended to include dwellings. The leaflet costs £5.

Vibro stone guide

BRE has produced new guidance on specifying vibro stone columns, the most common form of ground treatment in the UK. It involvesreinforcing weak ground with densely compacted stone columns that are tightly interlocked with the surrounding soil. BRE prepared the guidance under the DETR's Partners in Innovation initiative. The document is published by CRC.

Double camber

Forticrete has developed a new double-cambered version of its Gemini roof tile. The company claims that Gemini can help reduce a roof's installation time by up to25 per cent and will cut materials usage by 30 per cent, compared with traditional plain tile roofs. The new double cambered version was shown on the roof of The Crest Homes show house at the BBC Good Homes Show in London in April.

Improved bead

Catnic has added a new bead to its range of metal building components. The new Dry Wall Thin Coat (DWTC) bead replaces the existing Dry Wall 90 bead. It features an improved perforation pattern, designed to make the wings more flexible. Combined with a new 85 deg angle, the new profile helps to optimise finishing coat coverage, says Catnic.

Seabed sampling

Gardline Surveys' new GTEC-1 system underwater geotechnical testing device uses acoustic tele-metry instead of an umbilical cable to provide a link with the surface. The GTEC-1 is suitable for seabed sampling in depths up to 2,000 m, but the absence of an umbilical makes it very compact and transportable. It also means the device can be quickly deployed.

HIGH RESOLUTION: Mitsubishi Electric has introduced two new security systems which the firm says deliver superior performance through the use of digital technology. The DS-150T3 can control up to 16 cameras while the larger-capacity DS-200T3 can be extended to 64 cameras. Duplex operation and fast image capture of 25 pictures per second gives uninterrupted recording combined with high picture resolution (see left), says Mitsubishi.
