Industry ignores skilled workers

Sir, The industry talks of a shortage in tradesmen coming through into the workplace. But when I qualified as a bricklayer in 2000, only two of us got jobs. The firm we worked for went bust this year and we now are unable to get work because nobody wants to employ people with 'only' four years' experience.

Before we went to college, we were both hoddies, so we know what site life is like (we are both in our 30s). So where is this shortage? Where are all the trades?

They are in the warehouse with me and my mate.
