Industry urged to use sustainable plywood

Greenpeace has released a report to show construction firms how they can avoid using plywood sourced from illegally logged rainforests.

The report promotes the use of plywood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council as sustainable and outlines steps main contractors can take to make sure all plywood is sourced this way.

This includes specifying the environmentally and socially responsible use of materials, requiring contractors to use FSC materials and asking for invoices stating materials are FSC certified.

The World Wide Fund for Nature estimated in 2007 that the UK was the third largest importer of illegal timber in the world.
