Inspectors shut 33 South East sites

Work was called to a standstill by safety inspectors at nearly one in five South East refurbishment sites checked by the government mid year in a rolling campaign.

The Health and Safety Executive revealed today that it had served 33 prohibition notices at South East sites in June and July, with work halted immediately until contractors improved standards.

A further seven notices were served requiring action on electrical issues, trenches and transport on site.

More than 170 construction refurbishment sites were inspected among 1,586 sites checked across the UK.
