Insurer unveils special deal for asbestos cover

A LEADING insurance broker has stepped in to solve a growing crisis over asbestos regulations.

Insurers suspended cover for inspectors working with asbestos after new rules were introduced last year requiring most UK businesses to carry out surveys for the material.

Now Lloyds broker Howden has unveiled a special package for surveyors that pass through an accreditation scheme developed by the RICS and the Asbestos Removal Contractors'Association.

According to Kevin Culliney, an executive director at Howden, the most basic cover will cost £3,000 a year, a figure he called 'an absolute minimum' He said cover will be limited to a maximum indemnity of £5 million, above which premiums will rise dramatically.
