Ruth Thompson, the former director-general of higher education at the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills, has been appointed interim chief executive of Partneship for Schools.
Her appointment follows current PfS chief Tim Byles’ announcement yesterday that he will leave his role at the schools agency at the end of this month.
How long Thompson remains in her interim role chief remains to be seen as a Department for Education spokesman confirmend recruitment of Mr Byles’ full-time successor was on hold until the department had completed its formal response to the James Review.
The government-commissioned taskforce, led by DSG International group operations director Sebastian James, last month said a central body should be given the task of procuring schools work and making sure it was delivered to time, quality and budget.
Mr Byles told CN that whether this central body would be PfS was up to government ministers.
