Internet site for new and recycled stocks

A WEBSITE advertising new and recycled construction materials is to appear on the Internet early next year, following a good response to the idea at Interbuild.

Visitors to the giant materials exhibition at the NEC in Birmingham last week had a preview

of the 'Materials Information Exchange' website at the Department of Environment, Transport and the Regions' stand.

The Building Research Establishment's sustainability team came up with the idea and will provide technical support for the information exchange. The DETR is sponsoring it.

The website contains details of:

recycled materials and demolition products for sale;

over-ordered materials and unused stock for sale;

'materials wanted'; and forthcoming demolitions, to notify of future sources of waste.

The service aims to forward the government's drive to increase recycling and reduce the use of primary materials. Net surfers will be able to visit the site at:
