Interserve plans refocus

FINANCE

A TIMELY series of contract payments at Interserve's construction business mitigated an 8 per cent retreat in group profits last year.

Construction profits climbed £4.7 million to £18 million, despite turnover crumbling £70 million to £537.9 million.

Chairman Mike Bottjer said: 'We are continuing to realign our activities to focus on better quality work that relies on our ability to add value.'

Difficult conditions saw profitability at the firm's industrial services division drag group pre-tax profits down £4.5 million to £49.1 million as turnover slipped back £126 million to £1.1 billion.
