Interserve takes £55m health double

Interserve has taken two health projects in Wales with a combined value of £55 million.

The firm will build the £45 million Children’s Hospital for Wales for the Cardiff and Vale NHS Trust and the £10 million Primary Care Resource Centre at Baglan, Port Talbot for Haven Health Properties.

The Children’s Hospital for Wales will provide surgical and critical care services and an outpatient suite, as well as supporting paediatric services across the rest of the Principality.

Enabling works on the tight Cardiff site will begin in March next year on a two phase build, for completiton in 2012.

The Cardiff project was the ninth awarded to Interserve under Welsh Health Estates’ Designed for Life: Building for Wales framework agreement.

Along with Laing O’Rourke and HBG, the framework allows Interserve to bid with its own dedicated supply chain for any major hospital projects that come up in Wales.

The Baglan Primary Care Resource Centre will provide facilities for GPs and dentists in the town as well as social services and the Area Health Authority

The project is scheduled to be completed in August 2009.
