John Laing submits Gerrards Cross claim

John Laing has launched a formal claim for compensation to Tesco following the Gerrards Cross tunnel collapse the firm announced in a trading statement today.
The firm said that it has started proceeding towards arbitration following the disarray last June when a 30 m long section of tunnel collapsed onto railway lines in Buckinghamshire, causing travel chaos for two months.

Laing has predicted 'disappointing' results from its rail arm Chiltern Railways following the collapse.

The firm offset this loss by securing the £319 million South Lanarkshire schools project and reaching preferred bidder status on PFI projects for the North Staffordshire and Leicester schemes.

John Laing will announce its interim results on August 24.
