July Contracts

JOHN Laing kept pole position in the contractors' top 40 for the second month running.

Its first placing was thanks mainly to the £200 million Castle Court shopping centre in Belfast for client Dunloe Ewart.

Other major contracts awarded in July included a £70 million office block in Reading, Berkshire, for client the Argent Group, picked up by HBG.

Mowlem was also awarded a £12 million job, to build a new headquarters for sportswear specialist Pentland in Finchley, north London.

Costain has a £7.3 million shelland-core contract for an office building on the Isle of Dogs, east London, while Taylor Woodrow confirmed it had won a £20 million deal to build a 16,000-seat stand for West Ham United football club, east London.
