Katrina fallout


US investigators are looking into the award of major Hurricane Katrina clear-up contracts after allegations were levelled that some were awarded without bidding and with limited competition. Contracts wor th more than £840 million were awarded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency alone. Investigators are looking into a £320 million deal awarded to Florida firm AshBritt. Government records show that more than 15 Katrina clean-up contracts exceed £56 million in value, including f ive deals of £280 m illion or more.
