Kelly reveals reforms aimed at raising school standards

Education Secretary Ruth Kelly will today unveil details of the Government's flagship education reforms, which ministers say will raise the standard of state schools to the best of the private sector.
The Education White Paper will set out plans to free schools from the control of local education authorities, giving them to power to expand, change curriculum and set admission policies.

It comes as an ICM poll found only 29 per cent of voters thought schools had improved under Labour, while 30 per cent thought they had got worse and 35 per cent thought they were no different.
