Kier favoured for footie academy

KIER is tipped to net a £7 million contract to build a new training academy for Everton Football Club.

The team has edged ahead of Birse, John Sisk, David McLean, Mansell and Preston outfit Turner for the deal to build the new complex to help the club find the next Wayne Rooney.

A project source said: 'Kier hasn't received a letter of confirmation yet but they are the only ones still in negotiation with Everton.'

The Toffeemen are unable to commit entirely to the scheme until the club sells its Bellfield training ground in the West Derby area of Liverpool.

The club is also waiting for funds to clear following last month's £27 million sale of Rooney to Manchester United before it appoints Kier officially.

Work will include building top-of-the-range indoor football pitches, a swimming pool, spa, gymnasium and office space. The scheme, which has the okay from the city council, is due to start on site early next year and last 12 months.
