Kier swoops for Ashwood

Kier has bought regional house builder Ashwood Homes for £23.5 million.
The move for Ashwood - which operates in Lincolnshire and North Cambridgeshire - has brought 389 consented plots into Kier subsidiaries Allison Homes and Twigden Homes.

Chief executive John Dodds said: 'This transaction is part of our ongoing strategy to expand and strengthen the residential division, and has provided us with a good opportunity to acquire land off market in areas in which we are currently operating.'

Kier made a similar move for another regional housebuilder, Tudor Homes, last year.

Kier has used cash balances and banking facilities to fund the Ashwood acquisition, paying £15 million now and a further £8.5 million in March 2006.
