THE KONE lift company has won the Pyramide d'Or award at the Batimat International exhibition in Paris.
The prize is awarded to recognise innovation in the industry and was picked up by Kone for its gearless hoisting unit - the EcoDisc synchronous axial motor.
The motor is mounted on one of the guiderails inside the lift shaft, thus dispensing with the need for a separate machine room. The manufacturer claims that the system reduces construction costs significantly.
Kone also says that the EcoDisc motor is twice as efficient as conventional hoisting units, since it uses about 60 per cent less energy and eliminates the need for oiling.
