Koreans plan Welsh move

SOUTH Korean equipment producer Halla is increasing its UK presence with a factory in south Wales. The 17 million development, near Merthyr Tydfil, will supply the European market with Hallas range of earth-moving equipment and fork-lift trucks. It is due to open in March.

There will be separate production lines for the trucks and excavators, with a number of new lines expected to be introduced to the UK for the first time, although final details have not been revealed.

Halla already has a sales presence in the UK, distributing its equipment through a subsidiary, and this should be considerably enhanced by the opening of the Welsh factory.

However, there are no plans to introduce to the UK Hallas range of machines built under licence to Hitachi, according to a spokesman for Halla.
