Kvaerner pins hopes on piling

KVAERNER Construction is set to expand its Cementation piling operation in Europe and will look to make an acquisition this year.

Robert Wallace, Kvaerner deputy chief executive, said the firm was keen to grow its piling arm in a bid to become a global player in the market.

He said: 'We are looking at developing the piling business in Europe. The firm is already represented in Hong Kong and India and we are also studying possibilities in North America.

'We will only acquire firms in areas we feel there is a strategic fit.

We are certainly not rushing to buy and are not keen to stray away from areas we do well in.'

He added that the firm would also increase its uptake of design and construct projects.

He said: 'We are not averse to taking on more risk because we are well placed in the market to deal with it. It allows us to get closer to the client and work through their worries by partnership.'
