Laing bags homes deal

LAING O'Rourke has homed in on a £20 million housing deal in south-west London.

The firm has seen off competition from Wates and YJL to pick up the deal for the second phase of a mixed-use development in Merton.

Wates was favourite to take the deal after winning the first phase from developer Countryside Properties but Laing O'Rourke nipped in for the work, known as Abbey Mills, which will see almost 300 homes, a health and fitness centre, hotel and commercial units built.

Located alongside the River Wandle, the scheme will offer a mix of affordable housing and private apartments.Work will start this September.

Experts from the Museum of London Archaeology Service previously investigated the site, where an abbey once stood.
