Laing in training

LAING has pledged to invest £370 million in improving rail services after operator M40 Trains, 84 per cent of which is owned by the contractor, was awarded a 20-year franchise for the London to West Midlands Chiltern network.

The contract will start in 2003 and will require M40, which is now likely to bid for the neighbouring Thames Trains network, to build new lines or reopen old ones.
