LAING O'Rourke has put to bed a £21 million university housing deal in west London.
The firm has seen off bids from Warings and Norwest Holst to land the deal, which will provide almost 700 rooms for students at Brunel University.
One project insider said the competition had become a two-horse race between Laing O'Rourke and Warings.
One bidder said: 'I think it got pretty tight towards the end and it may have been the strength of Laing's position in the market that gave it the edge.'
The original plans for the Uxbridge scheme involved around 640 bedrooms but the university has been keen to squeeze in additional facilities.
Final details have yet to be agreed but the tally of 695 en-suite rooms may increase once again before work begins next September, with 300 rooms due for completion by next July.
