Laing scoops 22m stage of Thistle shops complex

LAING has been appointed the main design and build contractor for the 22 million phase two of the Thistle shopping complex at Stirling, Scotland.

The contractor beat off challenges from Bovis and Balfour Beatty and work starts this week on the 18-month scheme.

The project is a joint venture between Stirling and Central council, merchant bank Deutsche Morgan Grenfell and Laing Property although sources close to the project say that the involvement of Laing as developer was no guarantee that building work would go to Laings contracting division.

The job includes about 18,000 sq m of retail space, consisting of two department stores and about 36 smaller units.
