Last roll looms for casino candidates

THE CASINO Advisory Panel has announced the final shortlist for new casino developments in the UK.

The panel has added Chesterfield to the large and small shortlist and has removed councils that have withdrawn in the intervening period, including Canterbury, Dartford and Thurrock. It has also removed Brent from the regional shortlist as it no longer wished to pursue its proposal.

Eight small and eight large casino developments will be permitted, plus one regional 'Las Vegas' style casino.

The panel will now prepare a report to submit to the Government in December, with a final decision early next year.

Large and small casino shortlist Bath & NE Somerset, Bournemouth, Brighton, Chelmsford, Chesterfield, Dudley, Dumfries & Galloway, East Lindsey, Great Yarmouth, Hastings, Hull, Leeds, Leicester, Luton, Mansfield, Middlesbrough, Milton Keynes, Newham, NE Lincs, Peterborough, Restormel, Scarborough, Sefton, Solihull, Southampton, South Tyneside, Swansea, Torbay and Wolverhampton.

Regional casino shortlist Blackpool, Cardiff, Glasgow, Greenwich, Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield.
