Leaflet push spells out BMP's green message

THE NATIONAL Council of Building Materials Producers (BMP) is urging materials manufacturers to take up environmental management systems.

The council has launched an initiative starting with three guidance leaflets which will be followed up in spring 1998 with a conference in London.

BMP environmental director Alan Wilen said: 'Our industry is facing a growing range of environmental problems and pressures. Many companies are recognising that the environment is a key business issue which needs to be managed in a planned and systematic way.'

The Building Research Establishment and Business in the Environment have helped develop the leaflets, which aim to give practical advice on environmental issues. They cover setting out an environmental policy; conducting an environmental review and; how to introduce a formal environmental management system such as ISO 14001.
