Liebherr is to introduce a flagship crane in Paris in May, a 400-tonne mobile, combining lifting capacity comparable with bigger machines and more manoeuvrability for restricted sites. With Y-boom guying, the LTM 1400/1 can lift to heights of 128 m while maintaining load capacity.

The company said it would not be pushed into price-driven competition. Spokesman Gerard Dobler said: 'If the unique requirement is the price, then it is not our type of customer. If it is price, plus service, plus high-end technological capacity, we can do business.' The company said it remained committed to producing a telehandler but would not be launching until at least next Bauma exhibition in 2004.
