Lighting up

Southern Electric Contracting has beaten Amey to become preferred bidder for a £245 million street lighting deal in Newcastle upon Tyne and North Tyneside under the Private Finance Initiative.

The firm was chosen for the 25-year concession by Newcastle City Council and North Tyneside Council.

It will replace more than 50,000 street lights in the first five years of the deal.
