Liquidator chases Artisan for £1.4m

HOUSE builder and developer Artisan could face another legal battle over Bickerton, the contractor it sold in June 2001.

Bickerton collapsed in December 2001.

Artisan said last week that it faced legal action from Gerald Edelman, Bickerton's liquidator, over the £1.4 million in management charges Artisan took from Bickerton before selling the firm to entrepreneur John Aviss.

Artisan said: 'If proceedings are issued we intend to defend our position on the validity of the management charges. If the defence is unsuccessful, the matter may result in a repayment by Artisan of all or part of the management charges.'

Artisan has already fought one legal action against Mr Aviss, who is being investigated by the Serious Fraud Office.

Although Artisan won the case and now has a £350,000 legal claim on property owned by Mr Aviss, the former owner is appealing against the ruling.
