Lovell inks £27m contracts 15 months after being named preferred bidder

Contracts have been signed by Lovell and Southampton City Council on schemes worth £27.4 million almost 15 months after the housebuilder was named preferred bidder.

The Morgan Sindall subsidiary, with housing association First Wessex, has been selected to provide demolition and construction work at Harefield, Sholing and Townhill sites.

However Southampton City Council will not proceed with a development at Millbrook after it failed to find a suitable bid.

A council spokesperson said the council is examining options for the site including the possibility of land disposal.

The contracts were held up while planning permission was sought and are now set to proceed although details still have to be resolved including a s106 agreement.

Work on regenerating the sites and Lovell will be expected to continue towards obtaining full planning consent, purchase of the sites and undertake demolition on the current sites and construction of the new developments.

The sites will include a mix of private and affordable dwellings and local amenity retail facilities will also be built at Harefield.
