M6 gets £6m sculpture

A £6 million sculpture is set to be erected alongside the M6 at Wednesbury as part of the Opus 9 regeneration scheme.

The 280 foot-tall structure will hold an advertising board surrounded by steel tubes and will be called the Sandwell Gateway.

Developer Opus Land is submitting a planning application this month and it is hoped construction will start early next year with a view to opening by autumn 2009.
