Man arrested after digger death

A site worker has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a man was crushed by a mechanical digger at a Berkshire recycling centre.

Police said Dennis Krauesslar, 58, had been emptying rubbish into skips at the Pinchington Lane Recycling Centre in Newbury on Monday night.

Mr Krauesslar, from Bartlemy Close, Newbury, was taken to the Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The 59-year-old driver of the digger, who was arrested on Tuesday, remains in custody at Newbury police station.

The centre will remain closed while an investigation is carried out.
