Man dies at site of new Scottish hydro plant

A 46-year-old man was killed today on the construction site of a new Scottish power station.

The incident happened at the Glendoe hydro power station near Fort Augustus in the Highlands shortly after 8am.

An investigation is being carried out by police and the Health and Safety Executive.

Scottish and Southern Energy said its £140 million hydro electric scheme will provide power for 250,000 homes.

It is Scotland's first large-scale hydro power station to be built in 50 years and is due to begin generating electricity next year.
