Marshalls profits rise

Landscape product maker Marshalls has revealed a 9.1% increase in profits today but admitted its domestic market had been hampered by exceptional summer rainfall.

First-half pre-tax profit to June 30 rose to £27.4 million, while revenue went up 6% to £209.9 million.
Its public sector and commercial market, which represents half of Marshalls' sales, registered a 5 per cent increase in first-half like-for-like sales.
Like-for-like sales in Marshalls' domestic market were only up 3 per cent, damaged by the adverse weather conditions.
Marshalls said it plans to open a further six Garden & Driveway Display Centres over the next 12 months, to add to its current four outlets.
