Metsec to spend £8.5m on steel mill

COLD rolled steel specialist Metsec is to inject £8.5 million into its production facilities in Oldbury, West Midlands.

In a move that is set to create 40 jobs, the specialist has ordered a £3 million quick changeover rolling mill - the first step of a three-year investment programme.

The German-manufactured mill will be the largest of 30 mills at Metsec's base and is due to be commissioned in the autumn.

It will roll sections at speeds of up to 40 m per minute over a range of dimensions and help boost capacity by 20 per cent.

Regional development agency Advantage West Midlands will provide £1.25 million in funding during the three year development programme.
