Michael Thorne scoops compost contract.

Exeter-based Michael Thorne Construction has nailed a £1.2 million contract to build a compost centre at Hill Barton, east Devon.

The contract was awarded by Verdia Horticulture and will include installations of drainage, underground holding tanks, weighbridge, parking, site offices and welfare facilities.

MTC managing director Peter Askew said: “This is an important contract for the company at a time when we are restructuring.

"It demonstrated our all round construction capabilities including large scale concrete provision, steel fabrication and a growing interest in projects with an environmental bias.”
