Midas touch brings New Year's honour


MIDAS chairman Steve Hindley was awarded a CBE for his services to the construction industry in the Queen's New Year's Honours.

Mr Hindley headed a management buy-in of the Exeterbased contractor in 1998. The firm has since grown tenfold and is expected to turn over £240 million in 2006.

Tulloch chairman David Sutherland received a CBE for his services to business and charity in Scotland.

Laing O'Rourke executive director Roy Adams received an OBE for services to economic development in Northern Ireland, as did Ronald Porter, managing director of building materials firm Charles Tennant & Co, for his contribution to the road industry in the region.

Heating and Ventilating Contractors' Association chief executive Robert Higgs got an OBE alongside Redrow executive deputy chair Paul Pedley and William Horncastle, chairman of modular home builder Horncastle.

Barry Robinson, chief examiner and past president of plant operator association Operc, received an MBE.
