Middlehaven work goes to Gleeson

GB Building Solutions has won the first part of a £200 million scheme to revamp Middlesbrough being masterminded by developer BioRegional Quintain.

The firm, which recently changed its name from Gleeson Building, will build a brace of apartment blocks at the Middlehaven Development under a deal which carries a price tag of around £20 million.

The largest is a nine-storey block featuring a mix of residential and commercial space and has been dubbed Qube. The second is an eight-storey block, called Community In A Cube, and also includes a ground floor of commercial space.

The entire Middlehaven scheme, which has been designed by architect Will Alsop, covers 80,000 sq m of office space and nearly 2,500 homes. Work will be carried out over a 20 year period.
