Middlesbrough roads to get £13.5m boost

Transport minister Rosie Winterton has announced £12 million of funding for improvements for North Middlesbrough’s transport infrastructure.

The work will include a new link road with pedestrian and cycle facilities between Newport and Riverside Park Road, widening of the existing A66 between Newport and the A19 and the widening of the circulatory carriageway at Newport roundabout.

As well as the Government’s contribution Middlesbrough Council and other key stakeholders will meet the remainder of the £13.5 million cost.

Construction will start in the next few months with work due for completion by the end of 2009.
