Minister unveils new anti-terror system

Transport Secretary Alistair Darling pledged today to reduce the risk of another terrorist attack on London as he unveiled new trial scanning techniques designed for rail and Underground stations.
Mr Darling urged consumers to continue to shop in London in the run-up to Christmas, saying the Government was doing everything it could to tackle the terrorist threat.

He said no transport system was absolutely risk-free but he believed the Government could make it 'steadily more difficult' for people to mount an attack or cause disruption.
