Modon signs up Jurong to develop masterplan for Sudair Industrial City

Modon, the Saudi Arabian industrial development agency, has signed an agreement with Singapore-based Jurong International to carry out the detailed masterplan for the first phase of the $40bn Sudair Industrial City.

Following the signing of the agreement, which took place on 17 December, a detailed plan is to be drawn up for a 15 square kilometre area of Sudair. It will include detailed infrastructure design and engineering, and will lead to the establishment of mixed-use areas and a university.

It is expected to take seven months to carry out the detailed design.

Once complete, Sudair is expected to accommodate a population of 1 million people in an area of 257 square kilometres, making it 70 per cent larger than King Abdullah Economic City, the largest of the six economic cities being developed in the kingdom.

Modon has agreed a financial package with the Saudi Industrial Development Fund to offer low-interest loans to potential developers (MEED 30:5:08).
