Sir Robert McAlpine has begun work on a £17.5 million contract to turn the former headquarters of supermarket chain Scotmid in the centre of Edinburgh's financial district into a new office development. The work is being handled by a joint venture between Gladedale Capital and Scotmid Cooperative. Work will finish next October.
