Monster loader in £10m Fred McAlpine deal

ALFRED McAlpine s Asset Management division has won a huge equipment deal at Hanson s Whatley limestone quarry that is set to net it £10 million over six years.

The five million tonnes a year load and haul contract at the Somerset site will see the first use in Britain of Komatsu s WA800 wheeled loader, a monster 820 hp machine with a tipping load of 57 tonnes.

The firm is also expecting shortly to announce another £10 million quarry deal, based around the productivity benefits of a f leet of eight 50 tonne articulated dump trucks, according to managing director George Crompton.

The firm is reaping the rewards of a booming quarry business, reporting £21 million turnover from its quarry deals and currently moving 21 m illion tonnes of mater ial.

Mr Crompton said: We also have a record forward order book of £85 million and we put that down to offering premium products and a premium service.Z
