More contracting pays off for J Smart

EDINBURGH-based outfit J Smart has taken on more contracting work after being hit by a fall in house sales. Contracting profits at the firm surged to £484,000 in the six months to January 2006 on turnover of £12.8 million ? up from £10.4 m illion.

Chairman John Smart said: 'The upturn is due in the main to increased contracting activity.

Private house sales are down again. The amount of work in hand in contracting is less than at this time last year. Private house sales for the full year should be sim ilar to last year.' Smart also made a £2.9 million interim profit on £3.1 million turnover from development work.
